Come and experience a day of self-discovery, friendship, cultural exchange, leadership building, inspiration, and service. Attend a series of intensive workshops and hear a dynamic keynote speaker focused on educating and empowering future leaders. Free for middle- and high-schoolers and eligible for community service hours. Check in begins at 8:00am. Lunch will be served.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS:

Leadership Compass – Learn how to identify the leadership strengths that you hold, and develop skills on how to collaborate and work cohesively with differing leadership styles.

Budgeting 101: A Bite of Reality– Get a taste of real world financial challenges in a fun and interactive setting and learn the importance of saving money, developing wise spending habits, living within your means, and planning for your future.

Silence No More: Mental Health De-stigmatization – Learn how to help raise awareness and change perceptions around mental health conditions.

How to Help a Friend in Need:  A Youth’s Guide to Drug Prevention & Intervention – Learn the truths about marijuana and how to help a friend in need.

Be An Ally to LGBTQ Peers – Learn a brief overview of LGBTQ+ identities, and about tools to build empathy and how to be an active ally for LGBTQ peers.

Building Healthy Relationships – Learn how to create a healthier environment for relationships by increasing awareness of the reality of dating abuse, distinguishing between healthy and unhealthy relationships, and understanding how to access help when needed.

13 Reasons Why Not: Suicide Prevention – Learn about the sensitive issues of teen suicide and depression, including a discussion on the warning signs of suicide and how to help a depressed, suicidal friend.

Raise Your Voice: How to Get Involved and Make a Difference- Discuss the importance of getting involved at a young age in your community and how to use your voice within government to make a change. 

Effective Communication to BEing HEARD- Learn the different forms of communication as well as skills to exercise assertiveness to ensure those you speak to with will hear you.

Identity Corners: Bridging Understanding amongst Each Other – Explore how whether we know it or not, we all walk into a room with various social identities.  This will be an active workshop and conversation around gender, ethnicity/race, class, religion, ability status, citizenship status, age, and sexual orientation. You'll walk away from this workshop learning more about yourself and others around you.

Want to get to college? Write this way! - Preparing for college and applying to the school of your dreams will require writing skills that are not taught in the classroom. This session will cover the variety of writing requirements you will find on today’s college applications, as well as everything you need to know about communicating by email with confidence.

Be HEARD through Movement- Be inspired to empower your mind and use beat and alternative movement to launch to new heights of self-worth, happiness and human connection. AKA, release their INNER ROCKSTARS.

Law Enforcement and You – Learn about the job and duties of a police officer, and discuss issues of compliance when interacting with an officer to ensure your safety.

I Am Peaceful – Tips on how to manage stress and live mindfully.   Introducing “Take 5” – a series of fun and simple stress reducing techniques that can be used daily.

Do Vapes Matter? - Learn about e-cig and vape products and how companies market to teens and young adults.

Listen & Connect: Helping A Friend In Crisis- Explore skills valuable to teens when helping a peer in crisis, including: active listening, asking key questions, offering positive encouragement, and connecting to a trustworthy adult, as well as other resources.
